Just a stones throw from Key West is Stock Island, and on Stock Island is Hogfish Bar & Grill. The restaurant has a very laid back vibe, made even more apparent if you get the chance to eat with a view of the water at sunset.
We had a short wait, as is pretty much the case for all of the restaurants on and around Key West. It wasn’t too long, and we enjoyed hanging out on the front porch.
As always, we ordered a variety of appetizers – coconut shrimp, conch fritters and fried green tomatoes. Of course fried green tomatoes are a delicacy back home in Georgia, so these were pretty average, but we really enjoyed the coconut shrimp and fritters.
The true star of dinner (and the namesake of the restaurant) was the fried hogfish. It has a delicate flavor, kind of similar to a buttery scallop, and was absolutely delicious without any need of sauce. I didn’t notice hogfish on any of the menus on the rest of our visit, so if you’d like to give something new a try, Hogfish Bar & Grill should be on your list.
